1992 – Foundation

Brisbane South Division of General Practice

Established as Brisbane South Division of General Practice.

Supported GPs in delivering primary care across the Brisbane South region.

Funded under a national network through the Department of Health.

2000s – Expanded Focus

Community and allied health services

Delivered services focusing on First Nations health, men’s health, and chronic disease management.

Led the coordination and delivery of “Access to Allied Psychological Support” program (ATAPS) providing critical mental health services for vulnerable individuals across the Brisbane South community.

Established Brisbane Family Psychology to complement existing services and expand clinical service reach for more local individuals and families.

Key deliverer of complementary allied, social and community health services across the Brisbane South region.

2011 – Health Reform

Medicare Local transition

National reforms replaced Divisions of General Practice with Medicare Locals.

Partnered with Ipswich & West Moreton Division of General Practice.

Co-founded West Moreton–Oxley Medicare Local, with our experienced team playing a lead role in establishing operations.

Played a lead role in launching and coordinating regional primary care services.

2012 – Accoras Rebrand

A shift in identity and purpose

Recognised and identified gaps in access to high-quality mental health care in a timely way - early in their life, and early in the onset of their mental illness.

Relaunched as Accoras, focusing on remaining grounded in and connected to our communities and the people we served, and designing and delivering innovative, flexible and above all, effective mental health, psychosocial and complementary supports that would make a real difference.

2013 – Youth & Family Focus

Early intervention and family support

Focused on meeting the need for flexible mental health support for children, young people and families.

Our You.nique Family Mental Health Support Service expanded across the Brisbane South and Gold Coast regions.

Second year as lead agency of headspace Inala.

Rebranded our psychology practice as yourtime.

Expanded to offer a wider variety of clinical and psychosocial supports including social skills and parenting groups 6 days a week.

2014/15 – Innovation & Recognition

Co-design and service excellence

Partnered with the Inala Elders and wider First Nations community to co-design and deliver UHELP, a suicide prevention program for Indigenous young people.

Won headspace National “Excellence in Service Innovation” award.

2016 – ParentsNext Launch

Expanding geographic reach

Funded to deliver ParentsNext across South East Queensland and Northern New South Wales regions, expanding our geographic reach further than ever before.

As the only ‘mental health-focused’ organisation delivering the ParentsNext program, the model offered by Accoras had a distinct point of difference for funders and an enhanced experience for participants.

Our unique expertise allowed us to understand and support the mental health needs of the parents in their education and employment journeys.

2017 – 25 Years Strong

A milestone year

Celebrated 25th anniversary.

Opened second psychology clinic (North Brisbane).

Our unique Recognised in Federal Parliament, presented at an international health conference, and nominated for Queensland Mental Health Week award. allowed us to understand and support the mental health needs of the parents in their education and employment journeys.

2018/19 – Inclusion & Innovation

Building inclusive and responsive services

Expanded suite of services to include delivering targeted supports for culturally and linguistically diverse people and families.

Launched the ‘Secondary to Intensive Family Support’ program which was the first of its kind.

Our ‘Settlement Engagement and Transition Support’ program allowed Accoras to build deeper and more meaningful relationships with cultural groups and partners across South East Queensland.

2020 – COVID Response

Continuity through crisis

Maintained service continuity during lockdowns and never stopped delivering services to our clients and communities.

Transitioned to telehealth delivery where possible.

Created Calm @ Home wellbeing initiative.

2021 – Recognition & Expansion

Demonstrating impact and influence

Named Employer of the Year by Voice Projects.

Presented to Queensland Parliament’s Mental Health Select Committee as an expert contributor.

Our Commonwealth Psychosocial Support Program and Attachment and Biobehavioural Catch-Up pilot programs showcased our impact in the child and youth mental health space.

2022 – Resilience & Recovery

Responding, rebuilding and reflecting on 30 years.

Marked 30 years of community-based mental health service delivery.

The devastating Brisbane floods decimated the Accoras head office at Yeerongpilly.

Maintained full services to our clients and the community through tried and tested service continuity strategies ensuring they received the support they needed even as we worked to find and establish a new office.

Won Queensland Mental Health Week award.
